Work From Home: How to Design a New Home Office

by Ryan Arnt 08/29/2021

Do you work remotely? Do you spend a lot of time in your home office? Whether you’re designing a home office from scratch or making some updates, you may need a little guidance when starting. Keep reading to learn 4 simple tips for creating a home office you’ll love.

Choose the Right Location

Do you want a home office right by a window? Do you prefer a darker space with minimal light? Think about where and when you prefer to work. Also, consider how much space you need to perform your job. Choose a space with enough room for you to get up and walk around throughout your day. You’ll also want to ensure that you have enough outlets and as few distractions as possible.

Opt for More Natural Light

If you can’t seem to stay awake while working from home, you may need some more natural light. Sunshine is the perfect way to stay energized and feel more active. It can also work wonders for your mood and well-being. To achieve this, try placing your desk close to a window or in a bright area. As the sun can help you maintain optimal levels of vitamin D, it can help you push through the day with more productivity. Aside from these incredible health benefits, natural sunlight also means you’ll be using less artificial lighting.

Keep Things Calm and Quiet

Productivity and quiet spaces usually go hand-in-hand. So if you’re looking to stay efficient in your home office, try designing one in a calm area. While there are many products and techniques that can boost your productivity, choosing a quiet area is half the battle. To increase your concentration you could invest in some noise-canceling headphones. From traffic noise to the sound of the dishwasher, these essentially block out all noise to help you stay focused.

Utilize Smart Storage

Unfortunately, the typical home office doesn’t have a lot of space to work with. Therefore, you may have to get a little crafty when it comes to storage. First, consider everything you need in a home office, then think about what storage solutions can help keep everything together. Luckily, there are tons of products and storage techniques that can help with this. Having total control over your storage not only makes your home office cleaner, but keeping things organized can also limit stress.

I have provided award-winning service to many clients over the past 25 years. Few other REALTORS are as trusted as I am. My clients trust my advice, and they know that I always look out for their best long-term interests. You can expect, and you will receive personal service that is second to none. I have called Southwest Michigan home for 40 years. My mother's family ran a local locksmith service, and my father served as the Chief Investigator for the County's Prosecutor's office for many years. I love all that this area offers, and I enjoy serving the buyers and sellers who are moving in or out of Southwest Michigan.

My wife and I have two children, and we would not want to raise them anywhere else. Between the award-winning schools and the plethora of youth activities offered in Southwest Michigan, it's a great place to call home. We enjoy spending time with friends at the beach, boating, golfing, hunting, skiing "Up North," and fishing.

We give back generously to the community that has been so good to us. Currently, I serve on the Lakeshore Public Schools Foundation Board (LEF), as Past President of the St. Joe Kickers Sports Club, and as a Rotarian in the Stevensville-Lakeshore Rotary Club. We donate throughout the year to various local organizations, schools, and youth sports groups.

I want to put my experience and knowledge to work for you. Having sold more than 500 properties while earning the trust and respect of my fellow REALTORS, who voted me the "REALTOR of the Year," I am confident I can earn your trust as well.

Looking to buy, sell, or invest in real estate? Please allow me the opportunity to serve you. I promise you will not be disappointed.
