Bulky footwear can be difficult to keep organized, especially when muddy or dirty. While many homeowners have a mudroom to help prevent tracking mud inside the house, the mudroom itself can become a chaotic mess. Luckily, there are some simple ways to store and organize your wet or soiled footwear no matter the size of your space. Here are some mudroom storage hacks for your footwear:
Simple coat racks also make excellent boot racks. All you need is the style of coat rack with long enough pegs to keep the boot or shoe from falling off. You can keep it on the floor and turn the boots upside down or attach the rack to the wall and hang it vertically. Experiment with different styles and sizes of rack to fit your particular footwear needs.
Using pebbles and coarse gravel for drainage is a staple among savvy gardeners, but it also makes an excellent addition to a mudroom. By filling a shallow tray with a small layer of pebbles, gravel or stones, you create a surface that allows your wet footwear to drain.
When in doubt, plastic bins and crates are a go-to storage solution for wet and dirty belongings. They're easy to clean, lightweight and perfect for stacking. For a convenient footwear organization hack, turn plastic bins on their sides so the opening faces out. This will make it easier to see which boots and shoes are in the bin while allowing for better airflow and drainage. Plastic milk crates are another fun option for upcycling and can be combined into custom cubby units.

I have called Southwest Michigan home for 40 years. My mother's family ran a local locksmith service, and my father served as the Chief Investigator for the County's Prosecutor and Director of Security for the Whirlpool Corporation office for many years. I love all that this area offers, and I enjoy serving the buyers and sellers who are moving in or out of
Southwest Michigan.
My wife and I have two children, and we would not want to raise them anywhere else. Between the award-winning schools and the plethora of youth activities available in Southwest Michigan, it's a great place to call home. We enjoy spending time with friends at the beach, boating, golfing, hunting, skiing in the North, and fishing.
I give back to the community that has been so good to us. Currently, I serve on the Lakeshore Public Schools Foundation Board (LEF), as Past President of the St. Joe Kickers Sports Club, and as a Rotarian in the Stevensville-Lakeshore Rotary
Club. We donate throughout the year to various local organizations, schools, Fine Arts Programs, and youth sports groups.
I want to leverage my experience and knowledge to benefit you. I have sold over 700 properties and earned the respect of my fellow REALTORS, who have voted me "REALTOR of the Year." I am confident I can earn your trust as well.
